From a recent client:

We reached out to Greg for expert help with connecting us to our possible Native American  heritage.  We tried to do so on our own and hit so many challenges.  He was so detailed and spent so much time combing through historical records, finding family members we had no idea existed.  We can’t thank you enough for your diligence and kindness to our family.  “

My Approach to genealogy

I LOVE TO FIND NEW MYSTERIES AND HISTORIES…

Genealogical detective work is something I am very passionate about. I love to travel about and find old cemeteries lost long ago. Often, I find that these lost cemeteries are full of just one or two families. These family graveyards were used for several generations and then often abandoned. Inspecting these abandoned gravesites, I try to speculate and wonder about the lives of these families. Knowledge of history, migrations and local occupations helps me to build a picture of those buried there.

Did they come here early in our Oklahoma pioneer days? Were they part of the Oklahoma Land Rush? Were they settlers who came here during the earliest times or much later in the state’s history? Maybe I will find the answers and maybe I will not. That is the mystery and the adventure. It gives me the hunger that drives my desire to know. I seek to investigate until my heart’s desires are fully filled. That is what I love to do. To me it is all about the hunt and discovery.

Often while visiting these lost cemeteries, I register their locations and the individual’s names into both the Billion Graves and the Find a Grave online databases. My goal is to be one of the top contributors to these sites to help provide a rich online resource for other researchers to use.

For my clients I will certainly try my best to find answers and satisfy their own questions.

GREGORY PHILLIPS

PROFESSIONAL RESEARCH GENEALOGIST

Who I am:

As the founder of Oklahoma Genealogical Research, I am an individual who is passionate about family history and I have the skills and desires to work closely with individuals looking to investigate and solve their family history and family history problems.

At Oklahoma Genealogical Research, I work as a consultant for clients, and both advise and undertake lines of research for these clients. As a professional I strive to comply with the Genealogical Proof Standard (GPS) as established by the Board for Certification of Genealogist (BCG) in all that I do.

In order to do this, I conduct efficient and effective genealogical research at various archives and libraries, both online and in person, in order to solve a client's research needs.  I use a variety of public and private records, such as court records, probate records, death and burial records, newspapers, land records and original tax books to trace family trees and descendants.  I assemble research results into family histories, lineages, narrative genealogies, and pedigrees as required by our clients.

For my clients I format and conduct preliminary proofing of all reports.  I thoroughly and efficiently analyze and solve complicated genealogical problems, especially those in which there is no direct evidence, or those in which analysis of evidence is particularly difficult.  I compile documents and present research findings in an organized, clear, and coherent manner. Examples of written products are various genealogical reports, lineage-society applications, compiled abstracts, and genealogical reviews.

I conduct research in almost any part of Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas; however, we typically specialize in the Oklahoma geographical area.

I use my extensive experience in investigative training and my years of professional genealogical research and research methods to accomplish these tasks.

Work I Typically Perform

  • Consulting with clients to determine the information required and directing research accordingly.

  • Liaising with historians, record agents and biographers.

  • Undertaking archive research and applying knowledge of local history.

  • Tracing personal histories of descendants.
